Nasi Putih, Asal Mula Diabetes

Pasti anda pernah mendengar pernyataan, "Biar pun udah kenyang, tapi kalau belum makan nasi serasa belum makan". Masyarakat Indonesia selama ini sudah dimanjakan dengan keberadaan makanan yang satu ini. Keberadaan nasi di zaman sekarang ini sudah sebagai kebutuhan yang harus terpenuhi. Namun tahukah anda, bahwa ternyata mengonsumsi nasi putih dapat berisiko terkena diabetes tipe dua. Diabates tipe dua menyerang usia 35 tahun ke atas atau disebut adult onset dan kebanyakan menyerang orang-orang yang berpostur besar yang dikategorikan over weight ataupun obesitas.

Penelitian mengenai efek mengonsumsi nasi putih telah dilakukan oleh tim peneliti dari Harvard School of Public Health. Qi Sun yang termasuk kedalam salah seorang peneliti mengatakan bahwa nasi putih dapat meningkatkan risiko diabetes tipe dua, dan risiko ini cenderung menyerang orang-orang yang mengonsumsi nasi putih secara terus-menerus seperti orang Asia. Namun pola makan yang tidak baik juga dapat menyebabkan diabetes tipe dua.

Berdasarkan penelitian yang melibatkan 350.000 orang yang diterbitkan dalam British Medical Journal, Sun dan timnya telah melakukan empat review analisis yang sudah dipublikasikan, empat studi tersebut dilakukan di Cina, Jepang, Australia, dan Amerika Serikat.

Orang Asia dianggap sebagai orang yang berisiko tinggi terkena diabetes tipe 2. Hal ini di karenakan orang Asia lebih cenderung mengonsumsi nasi lebih banyak daripada orang Barat. Orang Asia rata-rata mengonsumsi nasi tiga sampai empat porsi sehari, sedangkan orang Barat hanya satu sampai dua porsi seminggu.

Di dalam nasi putih terkandung indeks glikemik yang relatif tinggi sehingga dapat meningkatkan kadar gula darah dalam tubuh. Namun ada alternatif lain yang bisa digunakan untuk mengganti kebiasaan mengonsumsi nasi putih, yaitu beras merah. Beras merah mengandung banyak zat penting seperti vitamin, serat alami, dan mineral.

Sesuatu yang sudah menjadi kebiasaan memang sulit untuk diubah secara langsung  namun cobalah untuk merubah kebiasaan tersebut secara perlahan. Beralih kepada makanan yang lebih menyehatkan. Ingat, mencegah lebih baik daripada mengobati.
